Finding the right therapist is important.

Here is some more information about the services I offer, to help you determine whether I may be a good fit for you.

I offer individual therapy for adults, adolescents, and children. While it is often helpful to include other family members in treatment, especially with children and adolescents, I do not currently provide ongoing family or couples counseling services.

My approach to therapy is integrative, drawing from humanistic, experiential, and somatic models of therapy, and tailored to each client’s specific needs and goals. I am trained in Attachment-Focused EMDR and in Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), a mind-body approach that helps clients manage traumatic stress reactions.

I have experience working with a wide range of presenting concerns, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, PTSD, and relationship difficulties. I specialize in working with people who are survivors of interpersonal trauma, such as childhood abuse and neglect, domestic violence, rape, sexual abuse, and sexual assault.

I am also experienced in treating children for problems such as anxiety, angry outbursts, and difficulty adjusting to major life changes. I use play therapy to help children learn new coping skills, promote healthy expression of emotions, and strengthen parent-child relationships. I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), which helps children and their caregivers cope with trauma-related difficulties.

I believe that quality mental health care should be accessible to everyone. I reserve several spaces in my private practice for reduced fee therapy appointments. Please contact me to discuss the availability for sliding scale payment options. My name is Sarah Wood, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with a private practice in Claremont, CA.

Through the course of my education and professional experience, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients, in a variety of settings including community mental health, addiction treatment programs, eating disorder treatment programs, and school settings.  My therapeutic style is integrative, drawing from humanistic, experiential, and somatic models of therapy, and I bring authenticity and compassion into each session. I believe that each of my clients possesses deep inner resources of strength and wisdom, and that they are capable of overcoming even the most overwhelming circumstances. I feel honored to walk alongside them on their path towards health and wholeness.

I have always been fascinated by human resilience, and my work is my life’s passion. In my spare time I enjoy reading, baking, listening to music, and spending time with my family.

Getting Started

How to get started.

Before scheduling an intake appointment, I will do a free initial phone consultation that will last 15-20 minutes. During this conversation, we will discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and determine whether I can offer you the services that you need.

After the phone consultation, we will schedule the initial visit. Please print out the intake paperwork and fill it out prior to the session, to ensure that we are able to make the most of our time together.

FEES: My standard session fee is $120 for a 50-minute session. Extended sessions are sometimes available for a higher fee. Sliding scale appointments are available on a limited basis based on financial need.

PAYMENTS: Payment can be made with cash, check, or debit card via Square Cash. Typically payments are made at the end of each session, but other payment schedules can be arranged.

INSURANCE: I do not participate in-network with any insurance panels.  If your insurance reimburses for out-of-network providers, I can provide you with a monthly “superbill” that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
